Local Brewery News Marlpool - Marlpool. www.marlpoolbrewing.co.uk - B.L.O - Simon Davis As the brewery approaches its first birthday it can look back on a successful first year highlighted by the imminent opening of its off license shop. A popular feature that has been running for a while is the tasting sessions run on Saturdays and most Sundays between 12 noon and 6pm. Here you can enjoy a pint for only £2 whilst sat in the atmospheric brewery courtyard or parlour. The brewery is situated in Marlpool near Heanor, the brewery is in an old slaughterhouse and although it is situated next to the Queens Head, it is completely independent. The two and a half barrel plant was originally installed at Funfair Brewery and Funfair brewer Dave Tizzard has been assisting with the set up. The brewery will operate on a part time basis, and it is the intention is to start with a choice of a pale and a dark ale. They will also be supporting the Brinsley Animal Rescue charity by donating the spent malt for Boris, their blind bull to enjoy. Andy has submitted plans for an 'off sales' at the brewery. He is selling everything he can currently produce to The Crown at Heanor. Coppice Side - Heanor. B.L.O - John Moore Note from B.L.O. Chris Turner is working 7 days a week to get his beers out at the moment. His Coppice Side Mild 3.5% has proved very popular and has received great feedback but he will put this on the back burner after May. The same goes for his Coppice Gold 4.0% and Bitter Robin 3.8% as the hops he uses for these beers are out of season. Regular beers currently are Nottingham Blonde 4.0% (which is receiving very positive reviews), Scary Crow 5.0%, Deception 4.8% and a new brew called Owd Miner - a copper 4.0% bitter which is just hitting the pubs as we speak. He will also still brew his IPA Supreme 4.2% on an occasional basis. All these beers are brewed with English hops. He is also selling his beers in bag in box polypins on request. No other new beers on the horizon at the moment. He is in the process of opening an account with JDWetherspoon so we should see his beer in their local outlets shortly. Muirhouse - Ilkeston. www.muirhousebrewery.co.uk B.L.O. - Andy Sales andysales@tiscali.co.uk Muirhouse have now moved from Long Eaton to the former Blue Monkey unit in Ilkeston. The move was forced after only the 2nd brew on their 2BBL plant (formerly 3B's) by a neighbour complaining about the smell. This has somewhat forced Richard to go beyond where he wanted to be at this stage with the brewery. A brewery van has however been purchased and regular swaps are being done with Raw and Julian Church meaning that all 3 breweries benefit by having their beers beyond their normal distribution area. Magnum Mild won Beer of the Festival at Leicester BF in March and Richard was presented with his award at The Five Lamps, Derby presentation night recently. The former Muirhouse 100 litre kit has been sold to the Mallard pub at Worksop. Nutbrook - West Hallam. www.nutbrookbrewery.com B.L.O. - Julie Powell juliepowell30@aol.com Nutbrook beers availability should increase as they are now being sold by Small Beer as well as direct from the brewery. Both brewery sites are working at near full capacity with their new orders. Off sales from the brewery shop, Stanley Common site, remain brisk with both bottle & cask beer selling well. Chris recently brewed a beer to commemorate the twinning of Ilkeston & the French town of Châlons-en-Champagne. The beer was presented to local dignitaries from both towns. Once again Nutbrook will be sponsoring the glasses at Erewash Valley Beer Festival. Cow Juice (6.3% stout) won Beer of the Festival at the first Erewash Valley CAMRA Long Eaton Beer Festival in 2010, which was held in October. Leadmill - Heanor - B.L.O John Moore Originally set up in a Pig Sty in Selston, Leadmill moved in Denby in 2001 and again in 2010 in Heanor. A sister brewery to Bottle Brook (qv) many of the brews are one offs using rare hop varieties. The Brewery Tap is in Horsley Woodhouse. Seasonal beers are available. North Star - Ilkeston - B.L.O Simon Davies Further information on this new Brewery in Ilkeston to be added as soon as available.
