Situated in Marlpool near Heanor, the
brewery is in an old slaughterhouse and although it is situated next to
the Queens Head, it is completely independent. The two and a half barrel
plant was originally installed at Funfair Brewery and Funfair brewer
Dave Tizard has been assisting with the set up. The brewery will operate
on a part time basis, and it is the intention is to start with a choice
of a pale and a dark ale. They will also be supporting the Brinsley
Animal Rescue charity by donating the spent malt for Boris, their blind
bull and goats to enjoy. With any luck Marlpool beers should start
appearing on the pumps towards the end of June.
Richard performed his first double brew recently and managed to nearly squeeze out three casks from one days brewing. He is currently waiting quotes to double the size of the boiler which would double the size of each brew. Three beers are appearing at the beer festival at the Stumble Inn, Long Eaton at the end of May:- Smurf 4.4% -Amber beer dry hopped with Styrian hops. Sprouts Mexicane Mild 3.9% -Mild full of roasted malts packed full of chocolate malt. Fully Fitted Freight 4% -Perfect blend of malt and hops with a dry finish. Three beers have also been done for The Royal Standard, Derby festival in June including a new one called England Ale 4.6% Amber beer full of Progress hops. Beers will also be appearing at Derby Beer Festival and Erewash Beer Festival. 60 Bottles of Fully Fitted Freight have gone to the Flying Horse at Ruddington for their festival. Richard intends to try building up stock of bottles by brewing Ruby Jewel and Stout Fellow. Plans for a Christmas ale to be brewed soon and stored for conditioning. Finally, Richard then needs to concentrate on a little festival in Nottingham in October to see how many different beers he can brew for it. NUTBROOK - West Hallam. www.nutbrookbrewery.com Yet another busy quarter for Nutbrook as they are busy brewing another bottled beer for Croots Farm Shop, Duffield to add to the existing 4 which are Cow Juice, Ewe Drink, Shire Ale and Pig in a Bottle. The new beer is called Rooster, which continues the farmyard theme. Croots currently sell approx. 1,200 bottles of Nutbrook beer a month. At the recent Derbyshire Food & Drink event held at Kedleston Hall, Nutbrook were helping out on the Croots stall and sold out of all their beers. The East Midlands Fish & Chip Restaurant chain, Georges Tradition, is now selling 2 Nutbrook bottled beers in their two licensed restaurants at Ilkeston & Chellaston, with more to follow. Georges are also operating a pub in Woodlinkin called The Thorn Tree, which opens on 25th July, the pub will feature Nutbrook beers on draught. After a trial run last year, Nutbrook have added to their core range Same Again, a 4.5abv pale ale with a hint of Elderflower & Pomegranate. Plans are still underway for a new brewery (6 barrels) at a nearby location where beer will be brewed and barley and ops grown, the brewery should be up & running by the end of the year. Bottling of Nutbrooks' 8 core range is now so large that it needs to be bottled under contract whereas the personalised beer range is still hand bottled. Their website has been updated.
